Karina Villafan

SNDO

Hi, I am Karina Villafan, Im not gonna describe myself  in third person because I am here right now,

writing to you about myself and it doesn't make so much sense to me.

I am not sure if this text will arrive on time I am late with it, my carioca's background gives me a difference experience of time and deadlines.

I am not sure if I am proud of what I am showing... I have to say, this was the worst run we've done it, so please be gentle to us?

I know we can trust the art world and art market of Amsterdam, we all know we are all very sweet, diverse, open and decolonial here,

and no matter what, we won't be that judgemental to each other right?

If you don't know me, my name is Karina, I'm a Brazilian performance artist, from Rio de Janeiro, since 2017 based in Amsterdam and planning to stay longer.

I am the third world in constant process of haunting the first.

I am searching strategies to move within the cracks of the institutional projects here and there.

I am the echo of many voices and fights of the past trying to fight neoliberal necro power today.

If you are a curator and you want to have a cappucino with oat milk, by any time, I am available, when I am not working in other side jobs.

.

by the way,
In my last performances I have been dealing with different political themes as: sex politics and sex work (sugarterrorism, 2018), strategies to answer situations of oppression through art (I am manifesto, 2019), retelling colonial dutch narratives in a spiritualist, trash, epic and decolonial perspective (The Cape of Storms, 2019). The counter-narrative of the end of the world spoken by non-western realities (Getting worse, 2020). As an artist I like to explore what I call ‘twisted entertainment’, the playing of conventions and formats with a humoristic and ironic approach on the surface in order to create space for criticism on a deep level.
